Meet Tracey Emin in Neon Art

你應該不知道，半島酒店的大型霓虹燈裝置藝術"My Heart is with You"(*1)，
背後創作的英國藝術家Tracey Emin童年：
被強暴、酗酒、抑鬱症、濫交、流產，及與胞弟發生過關系。(*2)（no offense）

Emin其一最具名氣亦最引起爭議性的裝置藝術，是1998年的"My Bed"。
這張至今已世界巡迴展出的床，直接表達了她與前男友的一段生活：
穿過的絲襪、內褲、一瓶瓶半滿的酒精、一堆滿是煙頭的煙灰缸、
沾了血的衛生棉、用過的安全套…
英國商人Charles Saatchi以15萬英磅（約港幣195萬）買下該作品，
並展出於自己的畫廊Saatchi Gallery。
在Saatchi Gallery的官網，作品簡介形容這為Emin的"embarrassing glory" (*3)

Charles Saatchi亦買下了Emin另一經典（iconic）之作"Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995" (1995),
作品是一個藍色的帳篷，內裡貼滿102個曾經與Emin同床的名稱；
除了有過性關系的人，Emin亦將朋友、酒友、祖母的名字包括在帳篷內。
Emin形容同床的關系為"You don't do that with someone you don't love and don't care about." (*4)
作品於2004年Momart London的一場大火燒毀，
而Emin亦因英國媒體及大眾對該次損失的嘲弄和蔑視 （mockery and scorn）而拒絕重建。(*5)

我在前年旅遊英國的Tate Britain，第一次接觸Tracey Emin，
是她的霓虹燈裝置藝術（Neon Art）。
第二次重遇就是今年的Art Basel 2014。

雖然霓虹燈裝置常被質疑不屬藝術，亦無甚麼技巧（Technique）可言，
但其直接獨白，與觀者的聯系性是無可置疑。

大多Emin的霓虹燈裝置是以手寫形式，
主要圍繞性、愛、人、情感的題目，
大概與她自小缺乏但希望擁有的需求有關。

香港媒體、評論無一詳細介紹過Emin的背景，
只是略用「英國當代藝術家」及「給香港的情書」報導。

盡管她的霓虹作品經常使用"Love", "Promise", "Kiss"等字眼，
但這位向香港發情信的藝術家，於5月16日的英國每日郵報（Daily Mail）訪問中(*6)表示，
「我恐懼戀愛，然後我發現自己用了大半生逃避這件事。
所以，我還是認為做工作狂較好。」
（原文：‘I’m actually afraid to be deeply in love and be with someone who loves me. 
And I realise that most of my life I’ve actually kept myself away from love... 
it’s much this way; much better that I’m a workaholic I think.）

她再表示，「可以的話，我亦想嘗試遇到一位真正愛我的人，與他分享我的生活。
但我不認為自己可以這樣做，至少現階段我未能夠可以。」
（原文：I’d like to be with someone who really loved me, 
I’d like to share my life, but I don’t think I’d ever do that, 
I wouldn’t do that now, definitely.）

恐懼、逃避、慾求卻矛盾 — 經典的現代人通病。
然而，人始終不能倖免本能需要。




也許是她的經歷與創作存在極端矛盾，
所以一切的霓虹燈裝置才更有意思。
這才是鍾情Tracey Emin霓虹燈的原因。
